The experts join MrFix when recommended by our Clients or our other experts. MrFix screens every single expert thoroughly: we speak to them in person and check their references and documents. Our main selection criterion is reliability:

  • Does the expert understand his limits, so he only accepts jobs that he does well?
  • Does the expert assume his responsibility as a contractor or blame others for his mistakes?

Once the expert is on board, our Chief Quality Officer tracks how Clients rate the expert’s jobs and promotes or warns the expert as appropriate. In case of a justified Client complaint we give the expert 1 first & last formal warning. If a 2nd warning follows within 3 months we stop working with that expert.

Most of our competitors find most of their experts by buying a (Chamber of Commerce) database and calling everyone who has recently registered as a plumber, for instance. We never do that: we focus on more experienced experts and find most of them by recommendation:

  • When we started expanding from Amsterdam to The Hague in 2015 we only knew two good painters there. They helped us find a reliable glazier, locksmith and electrician, etctera…
  • When one of our plumbers moved from Amsterdam to Groningen he helped us find a good plasterer and two all-round handymen there
  • One of our retained Clients recommended her gardener to us. He passed our screening and she now books him via MrFix: if he’s not available we arrange backup
  • Another Client rejected a quote by our electrician and chose another for half the price. We found out that our electrician overcharged (and overquoted) Clients for materials and stopped working with him. When the Client said her electrician did the Job very well we screened him and he joined MrFix

Once an expert has our screening, our Chief Quality Officer monitors how happy Clients are with his jobs, especially he first five. Of course we track how Clients rate the expert’s jobs, both via our internal system and through platforms like TrustPilot and Google Business. But we obtain feedback much more directly: by monitoring the Chat between Client and expert. We continually review how the expert communicates and intervene if he is rude, unresponsive or otherwise unprofessional.

We use the positive and negative feedback from various sources to promote the best contractors to Master Expert: that is normally after ~40 Jobs and an average rating of 4.5 to 5.0 stars.

If we see an expert missing appointments, botching Jobs or failing to satisfy Clients in other ways then our Chief Quality Officer warns the expert as appropriate. Sometimes an informal warning is enough but we give the expert a first & last formal warning if we consider a Client complaint justified and the problem is significant. If a second warning follows within 3 months then we stop working with that expert permanently.

  • Do you master your trade but understand your limits, so you only take on jobs that you do very well?
  • Do you assume your responsibility as a contractor or blame others for your mistakes?
  • Do you take Client satisfaction seriously? Then please read this page and fill in your details at the bottom. We will call you within 24h

MrFix checks and filters experts thoroughly in multiple ways:

  1. The first screen is normally the recommendation by one of our experts or Clients. In our experience both take a healthy critical look at an expert before recommending him to us
  2. We then ask the expert to submit basic information online in Dutch or English: believe it or not, but some 10% of candidates cannot even manage that
  3. The main hurdle is an in-depth interview with the expert. It is designed around our main selection criterion, reliability:
    • Does the expert understand his limits, so he only accepts jobs that he does well?
    • Does the expert assume his responsibility as a contractor or blame others for his mistakes?
    • In over 50% of these interviews we find red flags, like saying “I can do everything” to blaming others for failed jobs or disrespecting Clients
    • We then check references of at least two jobs from the preceding six months
    • Finally we the expert’s documents: ID, Chamber of Commerce registration, liability insurance, cv, diplomas and qualifications, VOG (official Dutch certificate of no criminal record)…

Do you know a reliable professional who masters their trade and loves to help Clients? Then please ask them to read this page and fill in their details if interested. Thank you very much!
