MrFix finds you a local expert to check the safety of your home with regard to burglary protection. We call it the MrFix Burglar Check: not an official structural survey but a quick check of your home with specific recommendations for burglar-proofing and if you wish followed by quick implementation.
Quite often people apply for a Burglar Check just before or after moving in, but you can of course also do it after you just bought some precious jewel or artwork. Then burglar-proofing your home could be wise.
The rate for a Burglar Check is €80 per hour including call-out charge and VAT. The expert goes through the relevant checklist with you and leaves the list for you. You decide whether you want to have any improvements carried out by our expert. If after checking he works 4 hours or more on the implementation of burglar-proofing recommendations, he will even offer the Burglar Check free .
Aspects of the Burglar Check
There are a lot of different subjects regarding Burglar Safety. Together with our expert you will decide on how important certain measures are in your particular situation. Examples of measures are:
- Are there quality (preferably multi-point) locks on the outer doors?
- Are the outer doors fitted with anti-burglary strips?
- Are there proper locks on the outer windows, especially on ground floor?
- Are the windows fitted with anti-burglary strips?
- Is an alarm system in place?
- Is outdoor lighting in place, preferably with motion detectors?
- Are there any items around the house that facilitate entry by a burglar (by climbing on them)?
- Are valuables out of view of people passing by?
- Are jewels and other small valuables stored in a good safe?
- Have security cameras been fitted and connected?
- Is the mailbox secure: can anyone steal post (bank cards and passwords)? Can anyone open the door through the mail slot?

Burglar Check - Not mandatory, but very smart :)
A Burglar Check for your home is not mandatory like the Dutch annual ‘APK’ check for your car (or the British ‘MOT’ one), but it does make sense. For example, to:
- Make sure you, your family and belongings are safe
- Keep your contents insurance valid/cheap. Property insurers often require (or offer discounts for) certain burglar-proofing measures such as three-point locks on doors and ground-floor windows. Ensuring that burglars cannot open your door through the mail slot can also play a role in the assessment of damage claims.
