Tips for the expert

As a MrFix expert you know everything about the jobs you accept and execute. However, MrFix can often support you by keeping the planning and communication around the job simple, fast and smooth:

What does MrFix do?

  1. MrFix invites you for jobs on behalf of Customer. We first ask the Customer for a summary of the job, a photo and their availability for execution (or, if necessary, inspection)
  2. MrFix quotes, bills and collects payment on your behalf
  3. MrFix supports you with appointments and communication, for example by translating and by following up on quotes or any bad debtors

What does MrFix not do?

  1. MrFix does not contract any jobs itself: we are not your customer or employer
  2. MrFix does not invite anyone once you have accepted the job, so we do not let experts compete against each other on price
  3. MrFix only works with serious, able experts: not with cowboy builders

How does it work?

  1. MrFix invites you by mail and possibly by WhatsApp: as soon as you accept the job via a hyperlink, we propose the appointment to the Customer by mail
  2. We then create a WhatsApp group for you and the Customer so that you can exchange your information and prepare and execute the job as well as you can: right 1st time
  3. You submit your time and expenses via a second hyperlink: then we email the invoice to the Customer and to you a payment overview with the same info and our commission. We pay you as soon as the Customer pays (via iDeal, credit card or bank transfer): literally the next business day!

How do you accept a job?

    1. If the Customer requests a job correctly, MrFix will immediately (24/7) mail you a summary, the address and any photos. Quickly click the hyperlink in the mail and choose a date and (1-hour) time slot
    2. If no expert has reacted within one hour, we invite some experts via WhatsApp: if you click the hyperlink there, you first need to click your own name and then a time slot. Do not ask for photos: IF we have them then they are already in your mail box!
    3. In addition, you can always check your personal web page to see what new jobs MrFix can offer you (if you don’t remember the URL, enter your email address at https://klussenvoormij.mrfix.nl/)
    4. If you want the job but you cannot do it on the dates and times shown, please reply to the mail when you can do it or better: WhatsApp us on 06-1538 0087 (do mention the street name + house number!)

How do you choose the right job?

  1. Make sure that you tell MrFix in in advance what kind of jobs you want and can do in which regions: then we only invite you for relevant jobs and we don’t bother you with any other jobs
  2. Stick to what you do well: only accept jobs that you can really do and for which you have time. Reply to the invitation email with your questions if you are unsure whether you can do the job
  3. If you find out later that you cannot do the job and another expert is needed, indicate this directly in the WhatsApp group: MrFix will help you. You can only ‘hand back’ a job if the Customer agrees to that

What if the Customer wants an estimate?

  1. Most jobs requests come from existing Customers, who often know the standard hourly rate and do not even need an estimate
  2. If a Customer does ask for an estimate then on the page where you accept the job you will see an extra field: “Indicatie van aantal uren?”. There you only need to estimate how many man hours the job will take: just a rough initial estimate. We e-mail it to the Customer with your appointment proposal and then create your WhatsApp group. There you ask for more information: then you can adjust your estimate to make it more precise
  3. When you start the job, you will soon know even more precisely how long it will take. Or sometimes you discover problems that make the job take longer than expected. In either case communicate that to the Customer during the first working hour, also via the WhatsApp group

And if the Customer wants a quote (fixed price)?

  1. If the Customer insists on an inspection visit, you indicate via the first link when you start the inspection (the appointment for the execution will follow later). Or if the Customer asks for an estimate but you can’t even roughly estimate the man hours. Then at the 1st link under “Indicatie van aantal uren?” (“Estimate of man hours?”) you can click at the bottom on “Opnamebezoek nodig” (“Inspection visit required”)
  2. We will invoice your inspection in the same way as job execution: with a 1-hour minimum. For jobs of more than 1 day / €500 we deduct the 1st hour of the inspection from the final invoice
  3. After your inspection we will ask you for your time and parking cost via the second link, just like when you execute a job. In addition we mail you to ask the man hours and material cost (excl. VAT) for the quote: mail that input within 48 hours (preferably in an Excel file) and mention it in the WhatsApp group when you do. Then we can send the Customer a clear quote on your behalf within another 24 hours. We quote in Dutch or English, as the Customer prefers: we also help you with any further translation. Let us know if you need a deposit or demand special conditions! Please do not send any estimate or quote amounts directly to Customers, as you risk breaking Dutch law.

Please see here for tips on professional inspections & quotes.

What does MrFix mean by ‘Right 1st time’?

  1. Right preparation: consider carefully before the job if you have all the information and make sure that you bring the right tools and materials: the Customer does not want to wait while you go buy materials. If the info is not clear or not complete then ask right away in the WhatsApp group! If the Customer does not confirm the appointment within 1 hour, simply call the Customer (between 8 and 22h) and ask for confirmation in the WhatsApp group. If there is no WhatsApp group yet then ‘reply all’ to the mail with your appointment proposal and ask the Customer to call you. No need to go without confirmation! If nobody answers the door then share a photo of the front door (with doorbell and house number) in the WhatsApp group and then call the Customer. And if you bring a colleague do announce it in the group including his full name and WhatsApp number. If the Customer mails you or sends you a WhatsApp message 1-on-1, just copy his message to the WhatsApp group and reply there, otherwise we can’t support you properly
  2. Right execution: share 1 ‘Before’ photo of the problem in the WhatsApp group as soon as you enter. Next: first understand the problem and choose an approach, then execute it as well and quickly as possible
  3. Right aftercare: tidy and clean up if necessary. Please show the Customer see your solution and give any instructions and comments orally and summarize them in the WhatsApp group. Just before you leave, share 1 ‘After’ photo in the WhatsApp group: that proves the minimum time you’ve worked!

How do I submit my time and costs?

  1. During the job, MrFix sends you a second hyperlink (which we also send when we create the WhatsApp group). Click that right after the job and fill in your man hours and any material & parking costs (excl. VAT). Or after a quote job you just write in the WhatsApp group: “MrFix, please invoice per quote.” and mention any extra hours and parking costs
  2. You can also submit comments that are only intended for MrFix, but you should share most information in the WhatsApp group
  3. In the case of quotes, specify the minimum number of hours (1), the parking costs and only the extra equipment costs. At the comments state “QUOTE” and mention any extra work. If the job requires more than 1 visit but there is no quote, we invoice after each working day.

How much does MrFix charge the Customer?

1) Rates

The hourly rate is meant for small jobs & inspection visits. It depends on the type of job and always includes VAT & call-out charge. We invoice at least 1 hour of labour per man (rounded off to the nearest half hour) on your behalf as well as any material and parking costs. We advise you to quote a fixed price instead for jobs over 8 man hours / ~€500 but some plumbers & locksmiths quote fixed prices for smaller jobs too (without inspecting, of course).

There is a surcharge of 50% on the hourly rate for jobs that must start in the evening (from 6 pm), at weekends, on public holidays or urgently (within 24 hours). So there is no surcharge if the Customer is also available during the daytime on weekdays but you prefer to do it in the evening or weekend. If you (or a Customer!) have more questions about rates, please see the Rates page.

2) Which hours are chargeable?

Not chargeable: Journey time to or from the job, Pause (eating, smoking, phone calls)
Chargeable: Preparation time (advising, selecting, ordering, buying / renting and retrieving tools or equipment), Inspection visits, Execution and Aftercare (tidying, cleaning, disposing of waste, returning tools/equipment)

We urge you to ask for clear information in advance (via WhatsApp) so that you can pick up any material on your way to the job, for example, instead of driving back and forth to a builders’ merchant or shop after your arrive, because that wastes valuable time.

3) Quotes and estimates

If the Customer wants to know in advance what the job will cost (more or less), he or she clicks “First a quote” on the request form. See above under “What if the Customer wants an estimate”? And “And if the Customer wants a quote (fixed price)”?

4) Inspection visit

Most of our Customers and experts prefer not to spend time planning and doing inspection visits. That’s why MrFix makes it easy for you to ask each other questions and share photos etc. in advance (best via WhatsApp). If the Customer or expert insists on an inspection visit, we invoice it just like the execution: usually the minimum of 1 hour’s working time per man is sufficient. In the case of jobs lasting more than 8 man hours, you offer the first hour of inspection as a discount when the Customer accepts the quote.

5) Invoicing and Payment

We suggest that you ask advance payments for quote jobs with more than ~€500 of materials. We invoice non-quote jobs after every work day. You create the invoice by entering your hours and costs (see “How do I submit my time and cost?”). We check them and email the invoice to the Customer: at the same time we send you the payment overview. The Customer usually pays via iDeal or transfers to MrFix within the 7-day payment term: never accept cash! Note that some Customers pay (up to €1,000) by credit card: the credit card commission is included in MrFix’s commission.

We pay you as soon as the Customer pays us: note that it can take a few days before the money is in your account and credit card payments even take 8-9 working days to process. If you have not received the payment within 2 weeks, please ask the Customer in the WhatsApp group when and how he/she paid (do not WhatsApp or call MrFix). In any case we automatically chase any bad debtors: we e-mail, text or call every few days. If the Customer has not paid within 5 weeks, we will email you for permission to transfer the invoice to the debt collection agency and possibly the bailiff.

6) Cancellation

You and the Customer can cancel free of charge, but once the Customer confirms a job and then cancels or delays it less than 24 hours before scheduled start, you are entitled to the rate for 1 of your hours (because you can often no longer fill the gap in your schedule at such short notice). We invoice this in the same way as an executed job.

If you want to postpone / shift the start of the job, you should ask the Customer at least 24 hours in advance (in the WhatsApp group). Always communicate a clear date and 1-hour time slot. Usually it is OK to reschedule, but if the Customer says no then you stick to the appointment that you proposed. If you fail to keep an appointment MrFix will formally warn you (2 warnings mean you’re out).

Other questions

How can you contact MrFix?

Use WhatsApp as much as possible: normally the group and only when necessary (for example when you submit material costs) 1-on-1 with 06-1538 0087. If you mail, always reply to the last email you received from us about the job/invoice in question. And if you really need to call our our Chief Quality Officer, you can do so Mon-Sat between 8:30 and 18:00h on 020-675 0333.

Do I need to supply the required material (paint, doors, window frames, wall/floor tiles, laminate, wooden floors)

Yes, if requested by the Customer, you must supply the material. Please note that you may claim the time for ordering, buying and picking up material.

Where does MrFix work?

We have Customers throughout The Netherlands: not only in the Randstad area (Amsterdam, The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht, Haarlem, Rotterdam and Delft) but the entire country including Eindhoven, Arnhem, Apeldoorn, Breda, Maastricht and Groningen.

Does the Customer have to be at home during the job?

Usually that is not necessary. Many customers let you in at 8-9 AM, show you the way and go to work. You keep them informed via WhatsApp, at least with the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photo.

Does MrFix also serve corporate and government clients?

Yes, MrFix serves many offices, shops and restaurants. We even work for international organisations and embassies: that is the main reason why we ask you for a ‘Verklaring omtrent Gedrag’ (VoG).

What is the minimum chargeable time?

The minimum amount is 1 hour per man per job.

What should we do if the Customer is not satisfied with the result?

If you fail to follow the Customer’s instructions and get the job right 1st time, you have to go back free of charge and put it right under your warranty. If the Customer is not satisfied he or she will probably contact MrFix. Then we refer him or her to you, as you were there and can hopefully put it right: MrFix cannot. We do our best to ensure that the Customer and you are both treated fairly. We have been working with most of you for years, but MrFix is not your employer or customer.

Do I have to take on (certain) jobs?

No, you are free to accept or reject as many jobs as you like! You can simply ignore the invitations by email, but if we invite you by WhatsApp it’s better if you reply (“No” is fine). And if you are fully booked or absent for a week or more, just let us know via WhatsApp: then we simply don’t invite you until the agreed date.
