Converting Amsterdam offices to living spaces

Michiel 2 October 2016

Offices are rebuilt to living spaces

Since 2015 several offices in Amsterdam are converted to living spaces. In total there are 1,600 homes in the premises. Other facilities such as schools and offices with flexible workstations are developed in the offices as well. The office vacancy rate is reduced by 250,000 square meters due to this transformation amongst other factors. The solution serves two purposes: the empty spaces are an eyesore and offers a good opportunity to supply more people with a roof over their heads.

Rebuilding by professional essential

In Amsterdam alone at least 300 buildings will be transformed. Therefore, in 2018 another 4,000 homes will be created. That has an effect on the vacancy of offices: in 2018, the vacancy is estimated to drop to 12% as it was 18% in 2015. The transformation from offices to homes is not an easy job. Getting the right handyman, plumber, electrician, painter or other professional ensures a job well done. More importantly, future problems will be out of the question if the rebuilding is executed and monitored by these professionals.
