MrFix is here to help you find a solid local builder. Not only to repair or improve your home: also to prevent costly repairs by detecting and correcting hidden problems in time. We call it the MrFix Home Check. It’s not a formal structural survey but a quick check of your home: its state of repair, maintenance, energy efficiency and safety. Now MrFix offers for a limited time: refer up to 3 friends, family members or neighbours and get a Home Check (value €50) for free yourself too!

First you choose which aspects you want the Home Check to focus on. Then with the expert you will go through the relevant checklist and the expert shares his summary of the items you want to get fixed, including a fixed price quote for fixing them if you wish. You decide whether which improvements you want and whether our builder carried them out.

Why get a Home Check done?

Many people as us for a Home Check just before or after moving house, but we advise you to do it periodically: at least every 5 years. And if you are considering a significant refurbishment, the Home Check is the best way to get a first idea of costs, appropriate experts and required permits.

Types of Home Check

You decide which area / areas the expert focuses on during the Home Check:

Is a Home Check mandatory?

A Home Check is not mandatory like the Dutch APK (or British MOT) for your car, but it does make sense. To give you one example: you can do a Home Check before you buy or rent an apartment in order to make sure that your new home fits your requirements perfectly. And who knows, you and our builder may even discover hidden defects that can lower the purchase price / monthly rent 🙂

Conversely, make sure you discover hidden defects before you sell your house. This may avoid unexpected costs and delays to the sale
Discover small problems, such as leaks, while the damage (e.g. wood rot) is still limited. Do include wood window frames and roof constructions in the check.

A home check can also be useful for complying with the rules of your building / contents insurance. Property insurers often require regular maintenance like sweeping chimneys and annual maintenance of the central heating system. Keeping earth leakage switches in good working order and cleaning gutters / drain pipes in time can also play a role in their assessment of possible damage claims.
